Frequently asked questions.

Isn’t the Town getting funding for lake clean up?

While state and local funding plays a critical role in providing the town with resources for large-scale infrastructure and restoration projects, funds often focus (and for good reason) on the big-ticket items. But they may not address the sacrifices made by community members handling immediate needs. This is where the gap becomes most evident. Many local businesses, homeowners, and volunteers have sacrificed their time, money, and equipment to “do whatever needs to be done right now”. Members of the community have taken on this burden, many times, at the expense of their own personal finances. The Restore Lake Lure campaign seeks to bridge that gap. We want to lighten the load for the grassroots effort that brings heart and momentum to this restoration. Donations through this campaign acknowledge and directly support those personal sacrifices, ensuring that no one in our community is left to shoulder these burdens alone.

Where Will the Funds from the RestoreLakeLure.com Fundraiser Go?

In terms of fund distribution, our primary goal is to support the local heroes who are making personal sacrifices to restore the lake and surrounding areas during this time of need. These individuals and companies are often the first to step up, working tirelessly to ensure Lake Lure’s recovery.

To ensure transparency and fairness, our Champions—a select group of community advocates—will play a key role in identifying and recommending those who have made significant contributions to the cleanup efforts. We anticipate that within the next few months, two or three individuals or companies will emerge as the most instrumental forces behind the restoration, and funds will be allocated to honor and support their vital work.

By directing resources to those actively engaged in these efforts, we aim to not only recognize their contributions but also ensure the continued success of the lake restoration project.

Is the RestoreLakeLure.com Fundraiser a 501(c)(3) Organization?

Currently, RestoreLakeLure.com is operating as a grassroots fundraising initiative to address the urgent need for lake restoration. Establishing a 501(c)(3) nonprofit can be a lengthy process, often taking several months to complete. Given the immediate nature of the cleanup efforts, we prioritized rapid action to start raising funds and supporting those directly involved in the restoration.

While we are not yet a 501(c)(3), we are committed to transparency and responsible fund management. Our Champions will oversee the distribution of funds to ensure they go directly to individuals and companies making personal sacrifices and meaningful contributions to the cleanup. As the project evolves, we may explore nonprofit status to support future efforts and long-term sustainability.
